DREAMS: Remembering, from Cathy Hunsberger

A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP, (to aid in remembering dreams) Contd.

Snoring – There may be another problem, however. Beware of snoring partners. Sleeping next to someone who snores throughout the night can cause serious sleep deprivation. Many couples sleep in separate rooms to resolve this dilemma. It might be that you or your partner has sleep apnea (snoring can be a symptom), for which there is a medical solution. Talk to your doctor.

Especially for Seniors – Seniors tend to head to bed early. The day has tired them plumb out, and they’ve had enough. The trouble is, if you go to bed too early, you might wake up before your REM sleep period has given you a dream hit. Here are some helpful hints to help you keep a natural rhythm to your day.

Have a quiet ‘time-out’ each day, all to yourself, just to relax. Meditate, watch the hummingbirds, reminisce, or think of nothing at all.

Take a 15 minute nap in the afternoon, with shades drawn. This gives you a real boost of energy, without disturbing your sleep that night.

Have dinner around 5:00 and schedule a walk, a gentle yoga session, or other activity in the early evening. Those who practice tai chi often sleep for nearly an extra hour a night. These mild exercises can help you drift off quickly and wake up less often.
