Dreams of Past Lives, Continued

Let’s look at another of these past-life dream examples:

Robert has a dream that seems to take him back in time.  Everything is crystal clear:

He is riding in a horse-drawn carriage down cobbled streets.  Dirt-smudged boys are energetically clearing off the horse manure.  He tosses one a coin.

He sees a poor young woman with a child in arms, begging on the streets.  He is startled.  He recognizes her as his former parlor maid, the one he had to turn out when she announced she was pregnant, and thus disgraced.  His only son later admitted she had succumbed to his charms. He cringes inwardly to realize that his first, perhaps only, grandchild is in these onerous circumstances.  But there is nothing he can do.  Society doesn’t provide for sympathy or generosity for the fallen.

As he wakens, he wonders how this dream could possibly relate to him.  He is a businessman who takes good care of his employees.  He feels he is fair, although particular.  Then he remembers – a single mother with little education had been hired for the mailroom.  She was punctual and pleasant, but had trouble getting things right.  She was trying, and with some extra help might have worked out, but he felt it was not worth the time and money to derail another employee for that task.  He let her go.  He remembers the disappointment and near panic in her face.  Robert resolves to have his personnel department contact her and try to make things right.
